FTJ, Entry 83: The Majesty of Zion

Another spectacular national park. Zion is somehow more grand, majestic, and powerful than the others so far, with huge upthrusts dominating the horizon all around you, no matter where you are.

First, a few photos from the trip from Bryce Canyon to Zion:

On the way to Zion -- big curve, big hill.
A 7% grade is pretty steep for RVs. Of course, Beau and I went down 9% grades in West Virginia --with all our brake warning lights on and unsure if we would be able to stop. (We almost didn't.)
Cool rocks we passed on the trip. There were zillions of these kinds of rock formations.

Some Views of Zion

The weather turned cold, cloudy, and rainy by the time we got to the park. But the clouds made for some interesting photos, I suppose. The crags and cliffs and mountains took on a mystical look.

Despite the weather, we managed to get in a couple of hikes. We started with an easy one for all of us, but in the rain. The next day, Beau and I decided to do some other easy hikes, but almost as soon as we got to the end of one -- Emerald Pool -- it started to rain -- again. Red mud is not all that appealing when you are wearing sandals. Heck, it is not great when you are wearing hiking shoes!

Dave and Joyce took a more difficult hike, but I have no photos of that!! (Hint, hint, Joyce.)

HUGE boulder, huh?

Zion's Emerald Pools was very pretty, but messy.

Who are these people? Love the hoods.

That's Joyce in the pink hoodie.

Dinner Follies

We ate at the Majestic Lodge one night, at their restaurant "Arkansas Al's." The food was okay, the view was great, and the animal museum was...weird. So were all the antics.

Another kind of animal -- and a mannequin Indian.  HA!

Grrrrr!

Another evening we ate at Wildcat Willies, which was a cute and kitschy restaurant with very good food.

If you look closely, you can see us through the restaurant window.
Beau liked Yosemite Sam and Wiley Coyote.

We are now in Lake Powell, which is warm and magnificent.... Next time!

Tanks, Panky
