FTJ, Entry 20: Typhoon on the Banks

We are right on the beach in Rodanthe, NC -- Outer Banks (Cape Hatteras KOA) -- apparently during a particularly windy period. Maybe we ARE in Kansas, Toto! Typhoon-like winds are constant, but the beach and the scenery are spectacular nonetheless. I have to get a photo of the house they used for the Richard Gere/Diane Lane movie, Nights in Rodanthe! We are also down the street from JoBob's, a store featured in the movie.

Beau and I are going to indulge in seafood while we are here -- there goes the budget again.

So I think the winds here are a key reason that nearby Kitty Hawk was selected by the Wright Brothers for the first powered flight in the world.  That, plus there were no nosy press people here  -- I guess there were paparazzi even back then.

We went to the Wright Brothers Memorial and it was really impressive and moving. Those brothers had a dream and they made it happen! What a place.

Some photos from our stay thus far:

LOVE THIS! Typical Hatteras fishing truck -- with a little extra hanging out of the cooler.

Fishing fleet at Oregon Inlet -- Beau and his boys have fished out of here quite a few times.

Buddy enjoyed the museum -- and the 30-minute talk given by the park ranger. Yes, we broke the law again, ignoring the "No Pets" rule!

Another great day.
